Aloitin projektin, jota kutsun nimellä Kohti vastuullista vaatekaappia. Ensimmäinen askel projektissa on vaatekaapin läpikäyminen. Pistin ison osan vaatekaapistani myyntiin, mutta jäin pohtimaan, mitä tehdä niille vaatteille, joista en usko saavani rahaa.
Ensimmäisenä päähän pälkähtävä vaihtoehto: lahjoittaminen. Olen lahjoittanut aiemmin tavaraa Facebookin roskalavalla, mutta kokenut sen turhauttavaksi noutojen sopimisen ja kaiken pienen nypläämisen kanssa. Siksi tälläkin kertaa vähintään yksi jätesäkillinen vaatetta lähtee hyväntekeväisyyteen anonyymina.
Asuinkaupungissani Vaasassa on SPR:n kirpputori, jonka ulkopuolella on 24/7 käytössä oleva lahjoituslaatikko. Olen poikaystäväni kanssa kyseisen kirppiksen vakioasiakas, mutta olemme vieneet lahjoitukseen varmaan tuplasti sen määrän tavaraa, mitä olemme sieltä ostaneet. SPR ottaa lahjoituksia vastaan ja myy ne kirpparilla. Tulot käytetään luonnollisesti SPR:n toimintaan ja uskoakseni kyseisen kirpparin ylläpitoon. Vien mielelläni sinne käyttökelpoista vaatetta, sillä pääsen itse helposti eroon tavarasta, jonka joku muu ostaa tuottaen rahaa hyväntekeväisyyteen.
Suurempi murhekryynini on vaatteet, jotka eivät enää kelpaa edes lahjoitukseen. Toisin sanoen puhun vaatteista, jotka ovat rikki tai sillä tavalla likaantuneita, ettei pesu auta. Mihin tällaiset vaatekappaleet kuuluvat?
Järjen ääni sanoo, että rikkinäiset vaatteet kuuluvat tietenkin roskiin. Se, että Suomessa syntyy jopa 100 miljoonaa kiloa tekstiilijätettä vuodessa, saa miettimään asiaa uudestaan. Voiko rikkinäisiä vaatekappaleita jotenkin hyödyntää?
Nyt näppärät käsistään vastaavat, että korjaa vaate. Tämä olisikin erittäin hyödyllistä. Mun on myönnettävä, että minä en kertakaikkiaan osaa korjata pahasti revenneitä vaatteita. En ole käyttänyt ompelukonetta yläasteen jälkeen, enkä osaa käsin ompelemalla päätellä lankaa. Yksinkertainen ratkaisu, eli opettelu, ei todennäköisesti tuota tulosta siinä määrin, että osaisin kaikki rikkinäiset vaatteeni korjata.
Jotkut näppärät ihmiset tekevät myös vaatteista esimerkiksi rättejä. Tämä varmasti pätee joihinkin vaatteisiin, mutta haluanko kotiini jostain vanhoista sukista ja alusvaatteista tehtyjä rättejä? Kankaan määrän huomioon ottaen niistä tuskin kummoisia pölynpyyhkijöitä saisi.
Rikkinäistä vaatetta ei saa laittaa lahjoitusbokseihin, enkä siellä Facebookinkaan puolella viitsi ilmaiseksi jaella vanhoja ja virttyneitä sukkiani tai puhki kuluneita kollareita.
Päädyn siis kuitenkin heittämään vaatteet roskiin. Hampaita kiristellen, omatunto soimaten vien vaatteeni taloyhtiön pihalla nököttävään sekajäteroskikseen.
Huomiseen mennessä olen jo unohtanut asian.
